Human Prisms

The purpose of a mirror is found in its ability to reflect an accurate image of its subject. The resulting reflection is an image of the subject, not the subject itself. We all are created in the image of God and in like manner, we reflect God's image as in a mirror. The given quality of a mirror's surface may introduce various distortions and aberrations similar to a fun-house mirror or a poor camera lens. Accordingly, we do not always reflect God's image well. Now imagine an optical prism. As light enters the prism the different wavelengths of light interact with the glass. Some wavelengths of light slow down more than others. Therefore, each color of light is separated from the original beam of white light and is refracted at a different angle. This allows us to see blue, purple, green, and red light in place of what was pure white light. In like manner, when one views himself in a mirror, he is only able to perceive a two dimensional reflection. Thus he is unable to see the different attributes of light being reflected. However, when the glory of God shines into and passes through the human being the various communicable attributes of God are distinguished from one another.
