Infinite Value

Often we find ourselves at one end or the other of a perilous dichotomy. On the one hand we may be overly confident in our abilities; puffed-up and conceited. At the other extreme we may feel insignificant and worthless. These vicious antitheses find reconciliation in a proper understanding of ourselves as image-bearers of God. In God we have infinite value. However, if in this knowledge we conclude that we are greater than others, we are led into pride and arrogance. This is ultimately disastrous. Our fall into the pit of humiliation is preceded by haughtiness. If we do not learn humility we will attempt to crawl out on the backs of others, leading to further ruin. Therefore, we must avoid this costly error and seek to understand our value only from the God who loves us. We may then joyfully move forward in the life we have been given by God.
